Currently zone one is sitting at 2 stars for me and I'm getting annihilated by the very first combat encounter I run into, because it spawns multiple enemies with 2-3 healthbars, plus numerous ranged enemies etc. The developer gained a lot of attention recently for their release of Highfleet a while back, and also worked on Vangers (all of which are apparently the same shared universe, as well.So it's a feature that if you're a 'top player' the game starts racking up the difficulty in each region, presumably so that you don't have too easy a time in any given zone when you've played the game enough. I haven't seen anyone attempt a similar premise since Arcanorum blatantly copied it for a flash game. It's really one-of-a-kind even to this day. A patch you can install includes a multi-ship skirmish mode between tribes. The game lasts a good few hours, has several branching paths, a sci-fi Arabic setting, and has a lot of replayability with it's multiple endings with exclusive weapons, and infinite game modes like Arena and Hunt. Weapons can be permanently upgraded with rare elemental gems, mined from the guts of giant insects, and a lot of the more expensive weaponry is super satisfying to use. You can even dual wield, use armor, and use 'throwable' equipment. Flails, Blades, Hammers, even rotating guns. You play as The Last Gaiar, piloting a flying war machine that utilizes physics based weaponry. It is it's age, and it requires a small amount of technical fiddling to get it running properly, but it is an excellent game when you get your hands on it. The 15 minutes installing a patch and setting your mouse DPI to maximum are worth it. It's an underappreciated indie classic, and it's free now. Also Hammerfight is free on Steam so you can play it for free and make an opinion of it. They're quite different, all right, but they feel similar to me.
